Long Course:

AS USUAL, THIS IS VERY SUBJECT TO CHANGE BASED ON ACTUAL CONDITIONS RACE MORNING.

Based on the surf and wind forecast, and the desire to run the long course around Makapuu, the safest route is from Makai Pier, clockwise around Rabbit Island and around Makapuu to Sand Island via the small channel (unless the south swell picks up). This will put the paddlers in the deep blue water where the waves are less likely to break from top to bottom. Alan Davis is still a concern, but we’ll have to stay wide and out to sea. Past Alan Davis, it should be home free to Sand Island. This course is 22 miles so prepare accordingly. Fall back alternate course if conditions are too gnarly from Makai Pier is to go from Hawaii Kai to Sand Island with extra mileage added on in the lagoon to achieve 20 miles.

Short Course: The start will be in Hawaii Kai and assuming we finish at Sand Island as per the details above, it will go around Diamond Head Buoy to Sand Isle. 13.7 miles.

WARNING:

Wind and surf forecasts are Black Diamond status. We still emphasize to NOT sign up for the long course if you are not in the elite class.  Respect the ocean and know your ability.  Safety is no joke. If don’t think you can swim well enough to save yourself in case of emergency, short course is a better choice.  If the race director has any question of your ability, you will be moved to the short course.  No matter what course you are on, you must have a leash, are advised to wear bright clothing, bring a whistle and wear a PFD.
