OUR
MISSION

Guided by a deepening relationship between people and place, Manu ʻIwa O Ka Malanai believes in coalition-building to create enduring, positive change for Kailua’s nearshore waters.

Our mission is to restore Kailua’s shallow-water ecosystems—reefs, fish, and marine life—by incorporating Hawaiian ancestral practices with modern science.

COMMUNITY
COLLABORATION

Of all the ocean users, the largest group of people to use the ocean in Kailua are the men, women and children who paddle canoes.

KEIKI EDUCATION

Sharing with keiki the principle of “lawai‘a pono” will provide future generations with a path to manage this important food source.

MARINE MANAGED AREA

Supporting a Marine Managed Area is part of our effort to restore abundance to the nearshore fishery and perpetuate traditional Kailua fishing practices.
