Scott Hawaii Gold Challenge

The 2018 Scott Hawaii Gold Challenge will be a point series for single canoe category (with the exception of the Outrigger Zone-Kai Wa’a Kualoa Challenge for OC-2), long course only that includes all the Kanaka Ikaika and PAA races, culminating with the Maui Jim Molokai Challenge on May 27 (14 races).

Each race earns points for every participant who finishes in the top 50, male and female are scored separately with 1st place for each gender earning 50 points.  Certain races will have a single multiplier, a double multiplier and some a triple multiplier.  Single multiplier races will award the 1st place finisher 50 points and the 50th place finisher 1 point.  A double multiplier race would earn 100 pts. For 1st and 2 for 50th.  The triple multiplier races will earn the 1st place finisher 150 points and the 50th place finisher 3 points.

The following are the different races that qualify and their respective point multipliers:

Single multiplier:

  • KIRA races 1, 2, 3*, 4, 6, 7 & 10
  • Makapu’u Molokai Prep

Double multiplier:

  • KIRA race #8 – Scott Hawaii State Championship
  • PAA Koa Nui
  • Oahu Coastal Relay
  • PAA Kaiwi Channel Relay

Triple multiplier:

  • PAA Molokai Solo
  • Maui Jim Molokai Challenge (solo OC-1 only)

The more races you do, the more points you earn.  Points will be updated along the way during the season so everyone can see the top 50 OC-1 rankings.

*For race #3, the OUTRIGGER ZONE – KAI WA’A KUALOA CHALLENGE:  Only the OC-2 will earn points.  Each paddler in the male, female and mixed OC-2 teams will earn single multiplier points.

Prizes

1st place male and female paddler will win a $50.00 American Eagle gold coin (1 ounce of solid gold).
2nd place male and female paddler will win a $25.00 American Eagle gold coin (1/2 ounce of solid gold).
3rd place male and female paddler will win a $10.00 American Eagle gold coin (1.4 ounce of solid gold).
